Metal Zone is very glad to interview the band called “Vreid”.
Hi, do you want to tell something about yourself to the readers?
Hello good people. We are Vreid; bringers of Norwegian Black & Roll!
Your third full lenght album “I Krieg” released few days ago after:
can you describe it in detail?
A natural continuance from the previous 2 albums, but heavier and more
melodic. Definitively our best release so far.
Why a concept album based on Gunnar Reiss Andersen’s poetry?
I have always been fascinated by history, and this poem collection
paints fantastic images of a harsh time in history. Brilliant words that
we are prod to incorporate in our music.
After the tragic death of Valfar, the rest of the Windir members
decided to end Windir and put their music into Vreid project: now, after
trhee albums, I think you are not more legacies to the Windir sound but
you have a more personal. It’s true?
Vreid has always been very personal for me since I write 90% of the
music. We will always carry the proud legacy of Windir with us.
In which way a new song born, what is the element that inspire your
sonwriting?
A variety of things; nature, people, animals, movies, books, music etc…
There is not one thing in particular. How the music turns out, all
depends of my state of mind at that time.
What is the band that has an heavy influence on your style and what
kind of music do you listen nowadays?
Metallica, Death & Alice Cooper are my all time favourites. For the last
months I have been listening to a lot of old Rock & Roll stuff like Iggy
& the Stooges, classical composers like Grieg, Beethoven and Prokofiev
and new albums by In Vain, Type O Negative and Hardingrock.
Coming back to the album “I Krieg”: how first reviews are?
Excellent. A lot of 5/6, even in major magazines and newspapers. We have
never gotten this good reviews in Norway before, and it seems like the
European press are following it up with great reviews as well.
In this time are you in tour to play and to promote your last work?
Have you think about some live exhibition in Italy?
Would be great. We did 3 shows as support for Enslaved in Italy, and
would for sure like to come back. Hopefully we can do some shows there
this autumn. Bassano del Grappa was beautiful.
What means metal for you? In your country there are difficulties to
be a metal band?
Metal is the classical Metallica albums to meJ
No real problems being a metal band no, actually there also seem to be a
growing interest for Metal in Norway over the last years.
What do you think about the heavy metal movement in your country
and in the world in general? What are the band (or bands) that have
captured your attention?
Many great bands. From Norway I think that bands like Immortal,
Darkthrone, Emperor, Dimmu Borgir have been groundbreaking. Many good
bands around these days , but way to many shitty ones as well.
Who is the author of the album cover?
PC Groove. A local wizard of artwork and layout.
Why did you call the band with the monicker “Vreid” ?
It is a suiting name of what Vreid is all about. Vreid will always be a
channel for me to unleash my wrath.
Projects for the future?
Keep on working my ass of for Vreid.
All the Metal Zone staff thank you for your kindness and availability.
Do you wanna tell us something more?
Thanks for your interest in Vreid. Hope to see you in Italy soon. Skål!
