Metal Zone is very glad to interview the band called “KromleK”. Hi, do you want to tell something about yourself to the readers? Alphavarg: KromleK established in March 2004 as a Trollish Viking Metal band. That term included our two main influences of that time: epic Viking Metal with bombastic keys and Humppa-related folk music like Finntroll or Korpiklaani. As many others KromleK also had to suffer from different line-up problems, but the current – and hopefully final – line-up is: Alphavarg: vocals, lyrics / Hrím: solo guitars / Forað: rhythm guitars / Hrísdólgr: keys & synth / Alex: bass / Galt: drums & percussions / Aoife: fiddle Your second full length album “Strange Rumours, Distant Tremors” released few time ago: can you describe it in detail? “In detail”? – wow, that’s gonna be hard! Okay, let’s get it on: The first thing I’ve to state is that “Sr…dt” is much more alternate than Kveldriður and the Epic Viking Metal songs are now dominating. The whole story is divided in two parts, one could also say two levels concerning to the title. Part one consists of the Intro Valtívar – Sigtívar which is ancient Norse and means “Gods of war – Gods of victory”, the bombastic opener Herjan that is about Óðinn’s wrath- and war-aspect and Ásgáðsreien, the wild hunt of the dead, also lead by the Allfather. It is written in the perspective of a pagan individual that stands right in front of a new, dark era, the era of monotheism, and he is proclaiming a passionate oath to the Allfather always to be his stronghold down here in Miðgárðr. Grim omens is a story within the story. Here, the title stands for the grand final gathering of the Þursar, the norse giants, and Trolls that are heading for the last battlefield Vigriðr on which Ragnarókr will end. The lyrical perspective is changing within the song, first, it’s a human survivor that has been sent back to his mortal kin and kinsmen to herald the forthcoming assault and the fall of man. This passage is musically folk-oriented with fiddle and a folky guitar solo. Then the lyrics go back right into the scene when the Troll chieftain is proclaiming his plans… then another change in chronology: The Troll warlord and the berserk are preparing for the battle in their own special ways, supported by epic Black metal for the warlord and some mean Humppa-rhythm for the berserk. But there are many more compositional surprises within that nine-minutes-song. The next one’s called Fólkthing [also ancient Norse which means “Counsel of the warrior-tribes”] and it is a very fast, catchy folk-song. It describes the last traditional feasting of the Troll cavalry before the battle. När tiden vissnar is some kind of a traditional Norse fairytale about an ancient Troll that has ever been existed, even before time was, and he will be when time will decay [that’s the translation of the title]. This one goes right in the epic/melodic Black Metal direction with fantastic female guest vocals right in the beginning. With the next Song called Harvest the first part of the album ends. Harvest handles with pagan spirituality, consciousness and perception… with a final catharsis. The second part of “Sr…dt” is the Strandhagg-trilogy. Strandhagg pt. I The Drakkar approach was already released at Kveldriður, but it had to be set again for concept reasons. It’s about the assault of Lindisfarne 793. The bonus track SvartMetall is a statement: Fuck you!!! To all keepers of trueness!!!
In which way a new song born, what is the element that inspires
your song writing?
In this time are you in tour to play and to promote your last
work? If yes, is it going well? Have you thought about some live
exhibition in Italy?
In your country there are still difficulties to be a metal band?
Who is the author of the album cover?
Projects for the future? |
